Dr. Kamaria Tyehimba in a native Cincinnatian raised in the Historical West End. She is a proud alumina of Robert A. Taft High School class of 1977 The University of Cincinnati in 1981 where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, a Master’s Degree in Social Work. She began providing mental health and substance abuse treatment to adults, children and their families. She received her Independent Licenses for Chemical Dependency Counselor with supervisory in endorsement in 1991, her postgraduate Family Therapy training at the Southern Ohio Family Institute and her Independent Licensed in Social Worker-S in 1993. She received her Doctoral Degree in Social Psychology 1997. Her dissertation was on “The Relationship Between an Afrocentric World View and Perceived Psychological Distress Among African Americans”.
Dr. Tyehimba have dedicate her professional career to saving lives. She recognized that people in poverty have limited opportunity to break the cycle of poverty, childhood abuse, substance abuse, poor mental health and violence if the social determinants are not address. She has held several leadership positions over the past thirty plus years in addition to her volunteer service. Dr. Tyehimba is proud to say she has been with KYS for the past twenty-four years.
